چکیده

We consider decompositions of the real line into pairwise disjoint Borel pieces so that each piece is closed under addition. How many pieces can there be? We prove among others that the number of pieces is either at most 3 or uncountable, and we show that it is undecidable in ZFC and even in the theory ZFC + c = ω2 if the number of pieces can be uncountable but less than the continuum. We also investigate various versions: what happens if we drop the Borelness requirement, if we replace addition by multiplication, if the pieces are subgroups, if we partition (0,∞), and so on.

On Analogues of Some Classical Subsets of the Real Line

A theorem on the existence of separable supports of σ-finite Borel measures given on metric spaces with small topological weights is applied to constructions of certain analogues of special subsets of the real line. A well-known result from topological measure theory states that every σ-finite Borel measure on a metric space whose weight is not real-valued measurable possesses a separable suppo...

Functionally closed sets and functionally convex sets in real Banach spaces

‎Let $X$ be a real normed  space, then  $C(subseteq X)$  is  functionally  convex  (briefly, $F$-convex), if  $T(C)subseteq Bbb R $ is  convex for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$; and $K(subseteq X)$  is  functionally   closed (briefly, $F$-closed), if  $T(K)subseteq Bbb R $ is  closed  for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$. We improve the    Krein-Milman theorem  ...

Five-value rich lines‎, ‎Borel directions and uniqueness of meromorphic functions

For a meromorphic function $f$ in the complex plane, we shall introduce the definition of five-value rich line of $f$, and study the uniqueness of meromorphic functions of finite order in an angular domain by involving the five-value rich line and Borel directions. Finally, the relationship between a five-value rich line and a Borel direction is discussed, that is, every Borel direction of $f$ ...

Some new results on Borel irreducibility of equivalence relations ∗

We prove that orbit equivalence relations (ERs, for brevity) of generically turbulent Polish actions are not Borel reducible to ERs of a family which includes Polish actions of S∞, the group of all permutations of N, and is closed under the Fubini product modulo the ideal Fin of all finite sets, and some other operations. Our second main result shows that T2, an equivalence relation called “the...

Forcing with Ideals Generated by Closed Sets
